Circle Takes the Square - Demo

CTTS's first, much sought-after release. Unfortunately I cannot find a picture of the album art to acompany this file. More of a straight-up screamo sound than their debut full-length, but still a worthwhile listen (especially for the last track...hilarious).

3. A Disclaimer To the Self

Book of Dead Names - The Story Unfolds

Including members of the now-defunct Song of Zarathustra, this screamo side-project only released one full length album. The Story Unfolds combines the best elements of Orchid and Drive Like Jehu, adds a heavy dose of melody, a few pinches of electronics, and blends it into a searing screamo opus which absolutely shreds. Also included as a bonus are some sweet Evil Dead sound samples. In short, this album rips. Note: I highly recommend picking this album up on vinyl if you can find it.

Tracklisting

1. The Guilty King's Crown
2. A Full Grown Man In A Monkey Suit
3. How To Become An Assassin
4. We Aren't Vampires, We're Cowboys

Christie Front Drive - Stereo

Christie Front Drive are often cited as one of a number archetypal "Midwestern emo" bands which came to prominance in the mid-to-late 90's. More readily recognized for their split releases with other bands (Boys Life, and scene heavy-hitters Jimmy Eat World), Stereo demonstrates what this band is truly capable of when granted more than three songs as a canvas. Indeed, this album is arguably the highlight of their catalogue.

Tracklisting

1. Saturday
2. Radio
3. First Interlude
4. November
5. Second Interlude
6. Fin
7. About Two Days
8. Third Interlude

Knapsack - This Conversation Is Ending...Starting Right Now

Overlooked by all but a small collection of rabid fans, Knapsack played a brand of third-wave emo which consisted more of thick, driving powerchords than the wistful arpeggios so common amongst their contempories. It was Blair Shehan's distinctive throaty whisper, however, which was to become the signiture feature and primary attraction of this band. The highlight of their small catalogue, This Conversation Is Ending... was to be, sadly, the band's final album.

Tracklisting

1. Katherine the Greatful
2. Change Is All the Rage
3. Shape of the Fear
4. Cold Enough to Break
5. Skip the Details
6. Arrows to the Action

Slint - Spiderland

Equal parts progressive and emotional, Spiderland (1991) is arguably one of the most influential albums to ever grace "alternative" music. This dark, bewildering record has left an indelible footprint on the world of post-rock, math rock, and the indie scene in general.

Tracklisting

1. Breadcrumb Trail
2. Nosferatu Man
3. Don, Aman
4. Washer
5. For Dinner
6. Good Morning, Captain

Listen up...

I've been wondering what to do with this blog for sometime now...then I realized that, all over internet message boards, I always see kids who are sadly neglecting great, genre-defining albums, simply because they are either difficult to find amongst the quagmire of modern "scene" garbage, or because they are unaware said band/album even existed. Thus, I have discovered my purpose: to educate to misguided youth of today. In sum, I will be posting a bunch of stuff that I think everyone should hear. I'm making it as easy as possible for you to latch on to these albums, so listen to them, god damn it.
